Deltona Fire Explorers were recognized by the City Of Deltona Commission for their accomplishments through the years. Mayor Dennis Mulder presented the Deltona Fire Explorers with a Proclamation for their attendance at the Annual Florida State Firefighter's Association's Firematics competition held at the Dolphin Resort in St. Petersburg Beach on June 30th. The Fire Explorers are looking forward to the competitions scheduled for June 14, 2008, at the same location.
History
The Deltona Fire Explorer Post started February 15, 2002 after the realization that there were very few teen youth programs in the City of Deltona. At that time, the City was just seven years old, was; and still is; the largest city in Volusia County. A couple of firefighters put together a proposal and presented it to our new Fire Chief, Chief Frank Ennist, to start a youth program for the purpose of teaching a job skill that could be used in their life, have fun learning practicle skills for competitions, and to meet firefighters, and other youth, throughout the State.
Over the years, some of our Explorers, about 30% have gone on to work in the fire service for Deltona, Orange City, Volusia County, and other departments in Central Florida. About 40% have joined various branches of the Armed Services, 20% have gone on to higher education, 10% went to various other careers.
The Deltona Fire Explorers are trained to the State Certified Firefighter 1, Professional CPR, First Responders, Bloodborne Pathogens, IAFF HAZMAT Awareness, ICS 100 & 700, and WMD Awareness levels.
The Fire Explorers participate in and assist with many of the City of Deltona's, and other organizations, events, Firematics Competition Team, Honor Guard Drill Team, and various fundraising activities. The Fire Explorers also participate in the Central Florida Venturing/Explorer Super Weekend.
June 2002: Representatives of the Explorer Post traveled to Avon Park to meet with representatives of the Florida State Firefighters Association. They watched and gathered information on the Firematics Competition requirements, and enjoyed meeting with the firefighters from across the state.
